    Motivation letter

Many Master's programmes ask for a letter of intent. Swedish committees value a direct, honest, specific letter.

Only if it applies to you

    • Often asked for Master's programmes.

    • SEK 900 per semester, however many programmes you apply for. Not refunded. EU/EEA and Swiss citizens do not pay it.

  3. After admission: residence permit

    0/4

Only for students from outside the EU, the EEA and Switzerland.

    • You are only finally admitted once the tuition fee is paid; your university then informs the Migration Agency. Pay before you apply for the permit.

    • At least SEK 10,656 a month (2026) for your stay. Free housing or food from your institution reduces the amount.

    • Apply online with your admission letter (full-time, on-site studies), passport copies and proof of funds. The fee is SEK 1,500 and is not refunded. Decisions often take up to three months — apply early.

Only if it applies to you

    • If your studies last less than a year, you need comprehensive insurance for the whole stay. For a year or longer, you register in the Swedish population register instead.

    • If you study for at least a year, register with the Swedish Tax Agency — this gives you access to Swedish healthcare.
