  1. Before you apply

    0/3
    • Swiss universities and universities of applied sciences run their own admissions, with their own deadlines and fees. Read the international admissions page of each one.

    • Depending on the region, programmes are taught in German, French or Italian; many Master's are in English. Each university sets the certificate and level it requires.

Only if it applies to you

    • Without a Swiss passport or a Swiss residence permit you cannot be admitted to medical studies in Switzerland, because places are limited.

  2. Application documents

    0/5
    • Your school-leaving certificate (and your degree for a Master's) with transcripts, in the form the university requests — often certified copies.

    • Proof of the language of instruction at the level your programme requires.

    • Needed for the application and later for the visa and residence permit.

    If requested

    Motivation letter

Common for Master's programmes. Swiss committees expect a formal, precise letter — similar in style to Germany or France, depending on the region.

    • Often asked for Master's programmes — and also for the residence permit.

    • You must show that you can cover your living costs without public support. The amount is set by the canton and often by the university — ask your international office.

    • Take out Swiss health insurance within three months of arrival — or apply to your canton for an exemption if your existing policy offers equivalent cover. The rules differ for EU/EFTA students.

Questions

Do EU citizens need a visa?

No. EU and EFTA citizens enter without a visa, but they still register with their commune within 14 days and apply for a residence permit for non-working persons, showing admission, funds and health insurance.

How much money do I need to show?

There is no single Swiss figure — the canton and often the university set it. Ask your university's international office for the amount and the accepted forms of proof.

Is this list complete for my programme?

No list can be. Some programmes have entrance exams or portfolios. Always compare with your programme's own requirements.
